1. High Notes

  • April 27 (Saturday): Great concert at Cary Spring Daze.
  • April 29 (Monday): Good concert at The Templeton.
  • May 6: First Special Guest night of 2024 for Oak City Sound!
    • At our new permanent rehearsal location: Glenaire Auditorium (where we were on April 8): We can all agree that this is a far better location for us than the Music Room of the 6000 Building.
    • Who is a special guest? It's the person YOU invite to come and try us out. Start working on your singing acquaintances and persuade them to come and give us a try.
    • Several tags - We will sing several of the tags that were in the convention program in Pinehurst. Carol made 35 copies, so we should have plenty to go around. I have a few others in mind that I will copy on Monday before heading to Glenaire, or we will learn them by ear.
    • Men's chorus will sing "Bare Necessities".
    • Mixed chorus will sing "I Didn't Want to Fall" to demonstrate what we do.
    • We will invite everyone to sing "You've Got a Friend in Me" in the men's key and will also sing a simple polecat like "Let Me Call You Sweetheart."
    • Eva Snapp is bringing her 9-year old daughter, plus other acquaintances, so Carol is focusing on tunes they will recognize.
    • We will start at 6:30 and be done by 8:00 or so, depending on how long we can hold focus.
  • May 13: Oak City Sound in concert at Whispering Pines Retirement Community in north Raleigh.
    • Location: 7501 Lead Mine Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615.
    • Call times: 6:00pm for Men's Chorus, 6:25 for Mixed Chorus
    • Uniform Requirement: Please wear your contest uniform:
      • Mixed Chorus: Maui Blue Shirt, black pants/socks/shoes.
      • Men's Chorus: Mixed uniform plus perhaps black jacket. TBD.

2. Carol's Korner

  • Bring friends to our May 6 Guest Night and let's have fun!

3. Long Range

  • For our newer members: We do not take summers off, like lots of musical groups do. Hooray!
  • Aug 24 (usually around 11am): Oak City Sound in concert at Cary Lazy Daze town festival in downtown Cary. (not locked in yet).
4. Champagne Room
  • General Assembly Trivia: While 7th Dimension was strolling around last Saturday at Cary Spring Daze, one gentleman asked if we knew an old quartet from the 1970s called "Main Street". Of course, I knew them, with our founding director Rudy Partin as baritone, tenor Walter Richardson, bass Maitland Brand (aka "The Creature") ... but neither of us could remember who sang Lead! Maybe Russ Johnston knows?
