1. High Notes

  • April 22: Great rehearsal on Monday night, folllowed by a well-attended Afterglow chez Mac's
    • This was our last rehearsal at the 6000 Building!
  • April 27 (Saturday): Oak City Sound (both choruses) in concert at Cary Spring Daze, to be held (as usual) at Bond Park. Call time is 10:00AM but plan to arrive at least an hour earlier as the parking situation is always a bear. Our performance venue is the Sertoma Amphitheatre (our usual location). Performance time is 10:45.
    • Uniform Requirement: Please wear your contest uniform:
      • Mixed Chorus: Maui Blue Shirt, black pants/socks/shoes.  If the weather is cool, ladies can wear any sort of black jacket if they choose to do so.
      • Men's Chorus: Mixed uniform plus black jacket.
    • If you arrive way early, come and find 7th Dimension strolling about and causing distress amongst the populace.
  • April 29 (Monday): Oak City Sound in concert at The Templeton, 215 Brightmore Dr, Cary, NC 27518.
    • Call time is 6:00 pm for Men's Chorus and 6:25 for the Mixed Chorus.
    • There might be another photo shoot at 6:30pm.
    • Agenda will be posted at Oak City Sound Bulletin Board when Ready.
    • Our song set is the same set of songs as at Spring Daze, minus of few for time constraints.
    • The program includes a few numbers by The Templeton Singers, directed by our tot fave Director Carol.
  • May 6: First Special Guest night of 2024 for Oak City Sound!
    • At our new permanent rehearsal location: Glenaire Auditorium (where we were on April 8): We can all agree that this is a far better location for us than the Music Room of the 6000 Building.
    • Who is a special guest? It's the person YOU invite to come and try us out. Start working on your singing acquaintances and persuade them to come and give us a try.

2. Carol's Korner

  • Thank you for making the time to be a part of the Carolinas District Convention last weekend! I am proud of what we put on stage and I hope you are, too!
  • Please mark April 4 and 5, 2025, on your calendars NOW so we can have 100% participation next year!
  • Now let's go entertain some folks this weekend and let our friends know they are welcome to join us on May 6, or any Monday night that we are not out entertaining other folks!

3. Future Notes

  • May 13: Oak City Sound in concert at Whispering Pines Retirement Community in north Raleigh.

4. Long Range

  • For our newer members: We do not take summers off, like lots of musical groups do. Hooray!
  • Aug 24 (usually around 11am): Oak City Sound in concert at Cary Lazy Daze town festival in downtown Cary. (not locked in yet).
5. Champagne Room
  • Raleigh Trivia: On May 13, we are in concert at Whispering Pines Retirement Community, which is located near the intersections of 6 Forks Rd, Leadmine Rd, Strickland Rd, and Baileywick Rd.. Have you ever wondered where the name "6 Forks Rd" comes from? If you look at a map of that little area today, you can see Old Leadmine Rd, old Baileywick Rd, and Strickland Rd all coming together with 6 Forks Rd (all of them two-lane roads with no left turn lanes) at nearly the same spot. That, my friend, was the locale called "Six Forks". I can tell you from first hand experience that trying to navigate that area at 5pm in the 1980s was a total nightmare, even though it was all fields and forest as late as 1988. I bet that it is not much better today.
  • Multitudinous thanks and congratulations to Gary Thorn who has earned over $400 this year so far for the Chorus through his trading of options in the Stock Market. Who knew we had a Wall St Wiz as one of our riser-rats?
  • If you arrive at Cary Spring Daze early, come and listen to 7th Dimension Quartet who will be singing and strolling around!
  • 7th Dimension Quartet wants to express our deepest thanks to all Oak City Sound Members for their support and cheering at last weekend's District Contest!
