The Acorn – March 14, 2025 – OCS Weekly News

1. High Notes
  • Our Saturday performance of the National Anthem at a UNC Baseball game went well! Thanks to all 11 performers and Carol.
  • March 10 rehearsal: Good rehearsal as we continue working toward performances and Contest!
    • Good to see Robert McSwain at rehearsal and hope to have you back next week.
    • It’s official: Dawne Galdi & Mark Roblez, are the newest members of OCS.
  • March 17 (Monday): Last regular rehearsal before next week’s concert at Glenaire – then one more normal rehearsal before Convention/Contest. Usual OCS time and location: 4000 Glenaire Circle, Cary.
    • 6:45p: Mixed chorus
    • 8p: Business meeting
    • 8:15p: Men’s chorus
2. Overtures
  • Chapter 50TH Anniversary / Committee:
    • Have an idea? Want to join the committee? Let us know!
  • Donate to our monthly raffles!! Next up is Starbucks gift cards…
  • Registration for the Spring Convention and Contest is OPEN! https://www.carolinasdistrict.org/2025/01/05/annual-convention-and-contest-register-now/
    • Start off the convention weekend by attending the kick-off luncheon on Friday April 4 at 12:30 at Dugan’s Pub, 2 Market Square, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Last year, we had about 25 people at attendance from all around the district. Maybe a song or a tag might break out! If you plan to come, please give Nic Cols a heads up.
    • If you’re attending, remember to polish up your Polecats, especially “Wait Till the Sun Shines, Nellie” (conducted by our very own Carol) for the post-Contest chorus sing.
  • Any Concert Suggestions? – The more organizational funding we get from group concerts, the less formal fundraising we have to do. Contact our Marketing VP Bob Inskeep with any ideas.
